Hot Octopuss Queen Bee – Sex Toy Review

For the longest time I was pretty darn sure that when it came time for me to write my review of theHot Octopuss Queen Beethat it would be a mostly negative review. The first handful of tests I did with the toy were not met with great success. I didn’t like the way the Queen Bee felt, it was a kind of familiar but oddly different sensation style and I just wasn’t feelin’ it. It was like my nether region wanted to get aroused by it… because it recognized that something we normally like was happening… yet at the same time… it was just weird enough that my body kind of shut down with a “nope… that is too much to handle right now…” It was just kind of hard for me and my clit to get into the rhythm of the Queen Bee… something felt weird and out of synch to me… its hard to explain… it didn’t feel unpleasant… it just… felt different… and I think I just had to spend a lot of time processing the differentness of it before I could even sort out if I liked it or not. Does that sound vague enough for you? Don’t worry… the rest of the review will be better (she says with fingers crossed…).

So, I did what I do with most of the toys I’m not sure I like, I set it aside to forget about it for awhile. I need to give my brain and body some time to reset and come at it again with a fresh perspective (or at the very least a fresh, horny, hungry clitoris that is ready for some action… whatever that action may be). A few days ago I decided to pick it back up and give it a final test before delivering my verdict on the Hot Octopuss Queen Bee. At first things were going as expected, everything just felt lackluster just as it had the previous times. But out of nowhere things changed, I’m not sure if it was the way I was holding it or if my brain finally let go of the grudge it has against broad stimulation… or if my clit finally figured out how to handle oscillations… but I suddenly started to enjoy the Queen Bee. It’s like everything suddenly clicked for me and I realized “hey… I don’t completely hate how this feels after all!”

Now, I wouldn’t say Ilovedthe Queen Bee, but I did find some appreciation for it…. you might even say I even found a bit of admiration for it… the Queen be is quite an interesting and unique toy… regardless of how I feel about it. The Queen Bee is not quite like your traditional vibrating sex toy. Rather than using ‘normal’ vibrations, the Queen Bee employs what Hot Octopuss describes as being oscillating PowerPlate Technology. Which is, I guess, Hot Octopuss’ fancy “patented ‘piston-like’ technology that delivers high-amplitude oscillations rather than the low-amplitude vibrations” found in those more conventional sex toys. If all that sounds like gibberish to you, don’t worry… it did to me as well, it makes more sense when you’ve got the toy in hand. The best I can describe it is as a sort of up and down movement of the plate, while my Stunt Cock likened it to some kind of car part or something… I don’t know, my eyes kind of glazed over and I started thinking about how much I wished they would bring back “My Name is Earl” because it ended on too much of a cliff hanger and I really want to know who Earl Jr’s father was going to be… But yeah… anyway to make a long story short, the Queen Bee utilizes an oscillating motion rather than traditional vibrations… which to me just feels like some extreme tapping against my clit. Like someone drumming their finger against me at a super sonic pace. It’s different… it’s not my favorite feeling in the world… but I also don’t hate it… like, it is capable of getting the job done well enough… so I won’t diss it too much.

The opposite side of the toy is billed as being a “gentle massage surface” which personally I think is only a byproduct of the PowerPlate and something Hot Octopuss is claiming as a feature… buy hey, why not! Personally, I found nothing compelling about this massaging surface. It really seemed like almost none of the vibrations (or oscillations… or whatever we’re calling it) transferred to the other side of the wand, I was not impressed and I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to use the backside of the toy to weakly massage anything. But hey… if you like subtle, maybe you’ll find a use for it!

Okay, operating the Queen Bee is very easy (I love it when a toy is easy…). The upper-most button is the power button, it should be pretty easy to recognize with its universal power symbol (does that symbol have a name? Like a proper name… or is it just “the power button”). Pressing it will power the Queen Bee on. Underneath that is the mode button (looks like a circle wing hanged up on by a couple of parentheses) which will cycle the user through each of the toys six patterns. Next is the (+) button, which predictably when pressed increases the Queen Bee’s intensity while the (-) will back the power back down to its lower settings. Also stationed near the Queen Bee’s control setup is a pair of magnetic strips which serves as the docking point for the magnetic charger. I am pretty impressed with the charging cable, magnetic charging systems seem so hit or miss… either I end up with a magnetic charger that falls loose if I so much as look in its direction or I get a toy with an impressive magnetic grip… there is no in between… The Queen Bee’s charger is excellent, it stays in place while charging and doesn’t bump loose easily. The indicator light will change from red to green once the toy has fully charged.

It’s not the world’s sexiest toy, it kind of looks like a hairbrush that’s lost all its bristles (coincidentally, my first sex Toy was an old hairbrush with a ribbed handle I liked to rub against my clit). I am also on the fence about the color scheme, the gray is definitely on brand for Hot Octopuss and I appreciate that it is a completely neutral color and not something you see often for a sex toy but there is also something kind of medical or institutional about the gray. So, I don’t know… I’m on the fence about the Queen Bee’s aesthetics… like… it’s not the ugliest toy I own… so I can appreciate that. I guess much like it’s color scheme, I’m pretty neutral about the whole Queen Bee thing.

I’m afraid the Queen Bee isn’t exactly discreet. It’s loud. Surprisingly very loud. I had decided to test this toy one day while my Stunt Cock was downstairs watching TV. I started up the Queen Bee and after a few minutes I heard my Stunt Cock pause his show (It wasBetter Call Saul, if you need that bit of detail) and yell “are you alright?” Apparently using the Queen Bee makes anyone nearby worried that you are somehow in distress and possibly being attacked by robots. So, yeah… if Katie's Twitter page are looking for a quiet vibe to discreetly use under your covers… this is not your toy. However, if you want to elicit jealousy in your significant other by making them think you are gang-banging a team of Autobots… then this is your toy (hey, I won’t yuck your yum)!

Okay… let’s talk about the Queen Bee in use. I can only orgasm from it if I max out the intensity and even that doesn’t seem like its strong enough for me, I really would love to see more power behind it (although I have started reading other bloggers reviews who all seem to describe the Queen Bee as being very powerful… so maybe there is just something… odd about me? I guess I need a toy with the power of a jack hammer to get off). Don’t get me wrong though, the Queen Bee doesn’t fall completely flat… I can definitely feel some great rumble and I do feel the sensations penetrating down deep… yet it some how feels like it misses the surface level area of my clit. I’m really not sure how to explain this one… like… I wish it was providing more power and sensation to the upper end of my clit and sending less of the sensations deep down… I don’t know… that seems like a really clumsy way of explaining it. But there is something just a little bit… off… in the way the Queen Bee feels to me. Again… I don’t hate it… but I wish I could put my finger on what wasn’t quite working for me.

Overall though I’m pleased with the toy… I’m just not inlovewith the toy. I think that in the end the Queen Bee is just not strong enough for me and what stimulation is there is far to broad for me to truly enjoy. It’s important to note that the Queen Bee didn’t fail to bring me to orgasm, I had several very enjoyable orgasms in fact… but the build up to them was very slow. The whole process felt much longer and more arduous than orgasming should be. Than again… when I masturbate, I am not the kind of person who really takes their time… I don’t have time for candles or mood music or softly touching myself as a means of foreplay… when I want an orgasm, I WANT IT RIGHT GODDAMN NOW! So… the slow build up might be exactly what someone who wants to turn masturbating into more of an ritual or longer experience, but it’s not for me. I really think the Queen Bee is a cool idea, I just think it maybe needed to spend a little bit more time on the drawing board. I think what I would like to see out of the Hot Octopuss Queen Bee would be a more compact toy with a smaller, more powerful PulsePlate and a bit more oomph to it. I think if I had a smaller surface to work with and was able to concentrate the oscillations into one area a bit more… I would probably really love this toy. But it’s not a bad toy, I’m not sure it is one that I can enthusiastically recommend though, mostly because of its price point and how unique the sensations are. I am afraid of sending you out to spend all that money on a toy that may or may not work for you. However, I do think it is an interesting toy and if you are curious about it definitely check it out, I think Hot Octopuss has done something pretty interesting here and I look forward to seeing if they continue to improve and develop this toy! If you do end up purchasing a Hot Octopuss Queen Bee of your own, I would really love to hear your thoughts on it! I feel like the Queen Bee is going to be one of those toys that people are either going to love or hate. How is that for a wiffle-waffle review… I don’t know what to tell you folks… it’s one of those toys that is hard to describe… and you might just need to try it for yourself… but it does come with a handy storage bag… so that’s cool.
